Most Care Centres use a contractor service for GP visits. This can mean that there can often be different GPs coming into the centre and residents may miss out on that continuity and opportunity to build a relationship with their primary care provider.

What Primary Care Model do other aged care providers use?

If you wish to apply for a Residential Care Subsidy, you’ll require a needs assessment to be completed by the Health New Zealand &#8211; Te Whatu Ora Needs Assessment team. You can ask your GP for an assessment referral, or you can contact your local service via the NASC website at <a href="http://nznasca.co.nz">nznasca.co.nz</a>.

How do I organise a needs assessment?

Yes. An Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOA) is a legal document which sets out who can take care of your personal or financial matters if you can’t. That person is called your attorney. There are two types of EPOAs – an EPOA for Personal Care and Welfare and an EPOA for Property.
You need to set up an EPOA through a lawyer. The EPOA for Personal Care and Welfare only comes into effect if a medical practitioner determines you can no longer make decisions for yourself.

Do I need to appoint an Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOA) before moving in?

We use laptops and tablets for medication and progress notes, so our nursing staff know what you need and when you need it. Regular assessments of care are completed at least twice a year, and more often as your care needs change.

How do you keep track of my care needs?

We know spirituality and culture is important, so as part of your care plan we’ll find out what’s significant to you and how we can include this in your care. Many of our Care Centres observe celebrations from different cultures and have regular visitors or services from local religious and cultural communities.

How will my spiritual and cultural needs be met?

Nothing beats the comfort and reassurance of having a loved one right by your side, that’s why we created Couples Care Suites. Designed to keep couples together, they offer Rest Home and Hospital level care to suit both your individual needs. Experience the peace of mind of knowing that you and your loved one can stay together, in a Couples Care Suite.

Can I still live with my partner in Aged Care Living?

All medication, including over-the-counter drugs, are managed by our nursing team and overseen by our contracted GP or nurse practitioner. These nurses arrange prescriptions and organise medication with our contracted pharmacies.

Who looks after my medication?

Free Wi-Fi is available in all of our Care Centres. Your friends and family are welcome to ring you on our phone, or you can have a phone in your room at your own expense.

How can I stay connected to my family and friends?

Your feedback lets us know what we’re doing well and what we could do better. If you have a concern or complaint, we encourage you to first speak to the manager.

Who do I speak to if I have a concern or complaint?

Yes. This is your own private space and it’s important you feel at home, so why not personalise it with your own pictures and ornaments? We can provide furniture, but you might like to bring your favourite chair, side table and bedspread. Please ensure all electrical items you bring in with you have been certified and tagged as safe by an electrician before you move in. Alternatively, our maintenance team may be able to do this for you, but there could be an extra charge for this service.

Can I decorate my room?

All our Care Centres have a hairdresser who visits regularly. And for an extra cost, some of our Care Centres can even arrange for someone to come in and give you a massage or a manicure if you’d like a bit of pampering.

Will I be able to get my nails or hair done on site?

How do I apply for a job?

Oceania is proud to provide training and opportunities to get higher qualifications to progress your career. Many of our Business and Care Managers have worked their way up from other positions.

Are there career growth opportunities at Oceania?

To work at Oceania you will need a valid work visa. Oceania can sometimes support people with documentation for a visa, if they are unable to find an NZ resident to fill a position.

What kind of visa do I need to work for Oceania?

To work as a Registered Nurse, you will need to have a current registration number. However, our managers will still consider your application while you are waiting for your registration to be finalised. Please make it clear on your application when you expect to be fully registered.

I am waiting for my nursing registration, can I apply for a job before my registration is complete?

You don&#8217;t always need experience or qualifications to work as a Healthcare Assistant, as Oceania can provide on-the-job training, as well as opportunities to upskill.

Do I have to have previous experience and/or qualifications to work at Oceania as a Healthcare Assistant?

It is normal for you not to hear back about a job application until a few days or 2 weeks after the job has closed. You will get an email or phone call to let you know the outcome of your application.

I have recently applied for a job, when will I hear about my application?

A Nurse Practitioner has advanced education including both a Graduate Degree (Master’s or Doctorate) and Postgrad Nurse Practitioner training. This gives them legal authority to practice beyond a Registered Nurse. This means an NP can diagnose and treat health conditions, order tests, prescribe medications, and admit/discharge patients autonomously, while an RN’s scope of practice is more limited. NPs work as lead healthcare providers.

What is the difference between a Nurse Practitioner and a Registered Nurse?

Yes. You can continue to see your current provider, however, please be aware there are likely to be associated costs for your appointments, any call-out fees and travel costs.

Can I keep my own GP?

There are four key cost elements associated with living in a villa or apartment at a* village:
1.) The Occupation Licence Payment – This is the amount you pay upfront as a capital sum for your Occupation Right Agreement, giving you the licence to occupy a villa or apartment**.
2.) The Deferred Management  Fee – The Deferred Management Fee details are set out in the Occupation Right Agreement. Your solicitor will explain these details to you before you sign an Agreement to purchase an Occupation Right Agreement for a villa or apartment. However, a general explanation of the Deferred Management Fee is:
<ul class="ul1">
<li class="li1">The fee is an amount equal to 10% per annum of the Occupation Licence Payment. This fee accrues on a monthly basis for the first three years of occupation.</li>
<li class="li1">The maximum amount payable as a Deferred Management Fee is equal to 30% of the Occupation Licence Payment.</li>
</ul>
3.) The Weekly Village Fee – This fee covers costs such as rates, building insurance, maintenance and repairs, and gardening. The weekly village fee may increase annually to cover increased village operating costs and ensure we can continue to provide you with our high level of service. Rest assured, we guarantee any increase will be no more than the annual equivalent percentage increase in New Zealand superannuation benefit payments.
*Full details of our weekly village fees and increases are set out in our village Disclosure Statements and Occupation Right Agreements.

4.) User-Pays Goods &amp; Services – These are goods and services that you may wish to have just like your own home that are not covered in the weekly fee eg. home phone, broadband, SKY TV, personal contents insurance, entertainment outside the standard village activities, home cleaning, meals.

* Different terms will apply for occupation right agreements for care suites at a village
** All occupation licences for villas and apartments at an Oceania village are secured by a first-ranking encumbrance or mortgage over the village land in favour of the village&#8217;s Statutory Supervisor

What costs are associated with living in a village?

A Licence to Occupy gives you the right to live independently in your home and enjoy the use of  community facilities. Oceania owns the land and buildings.

What is a Licence to Occupy?

When your villa or apartment is vacated, a new incoming resident can be offered the Occupation Right Agreement. Once the new resident has paid their Occupation Licence Payment you, or heirs to your estate, will receive a refund. The amount we refund is called the Net Refundable Amount.
Here’s an example to demonstrate how the Net Refundable Amount would be calculated for a villa priced at $300,000:
Capital amount of the Occupation Right Agreement: $300,000
3 year Deferred Management Fee 30%: $90,000
Total paid to resident on exit: $210,000

How much will be refunded when I leave my villa or apartment?

No, as the land and buildings are owned by Oceania. You do not pay for refurbishment costs when you leave.

Will I get capital gains or losses when I leave?

Most of our Oceania locations have a Care Centre either onsite or nearby which offer residential care, so if you need extra support at Rest Home or Hospital level and a Care Suite or Care Room is available, you’ll have preferential access over applicants who are not Oceania village residents.

What if I need more care?

What happens when I go on holiday?

Your pet is part of your family. Talk to your Sales Manager to see if you are able to bring your pet to your new home.
